HOSTING A WORKCAMP

Our camps are hosted by local communities, non-profit organizations, environmental groups, solidarity groups, community action groups, and others who are interested in the impact an international group can have on their community. NOCONA Canada reviews workcamp hosts and their projects and selects host locations where we can support the goals of the project.

The work must be socially relevant or beneficial. It should not be too demanding or unpleasant (this is a working vacation ). It should be something that is not covered in established budgets or by the workloads of paid staff.

Work which promotes international understanding and peace is especially well-suited to a workcamp. Other worthy causes may be advanced, ie. the respect and dignity of the developmentally handicapped, or the protection of the environment.

The host agency arranges the local organization of the camp: meaningful work, room and board for the workcamp participants, and social interaction with the community. The host provides some supervision and liaison for the workcamp, and should be willing to experiment a little.
